Helping readers discover local authors
Read Local BC — eBook Series
Read Local BC was a pilot project at the Vancouver Public Library in collaboration with the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia.
The project set out to promote local authors and their books while reflecting the diverse community of library readers. Thirty Sony eReaders loaded with fiction and non-fiction titles were lent out to patrons over the course of the campaign. I assisted the Digital Collections team in creating two eBook companion guides to offer users background information on the titles which we loaded onto each of the eReaders.
I developed several different options for the cover. The EPUBs were coded by hand in Sigil and I made the interiors cohesive with the covers by bringing in the bold, playful typeface used in the titles.
Our team settled on two complementary designs for both of the guide covers which incorporated motifs that paid homage to the province's natural beauty.
